Kimberly Hayes you shouldn’t leave your blog up where just anyone can get into it 🙂
What is it like to be married to a photographer and what is it like 2nd shooting for her?
1. Most photogs are artsy people. Most of the time they due their best work at night, late at night. I am one of those that likes to be asleep about 10:30 pm and that is when Kim is just getting started some nights. We have to compromise sometimes so that we can spend some time together. She loves to race home from a shoot and start working on the pics. Me, I haven’t been home all day and want to see her so I beg her to wait until tomorrow.
2. 2nd shooting for Kim can be really fun. I personally believe that the 2nd shooter has a harder job than the first shooter. Kim gets to shoot from where ever she wants and I have to work around her. I will get what I think is a great shot lined up and she will take two steps forward and totally ruins it. Weddings can be really entertaining. I usually hang out with the guys for a couple of hours and take pics of their funny moments getting dressed. Recently we shot a wedding that had several wardrobe mishaps. One pair of pants was lost, one pair ripped right up the middle and several guys lost buttons to their jackets. The groom had to weld and spray paint the unity candle holder just two hours before the wedding. I have come away from some of these wedding with new friends. It was really nice when a groom said, “hey man stay in touch,” as we were leaving.
About two and a half years ago Kim was scared to death to start her own photography business. I finally went and bought her a camera and told her to start it! It has been wonderful to see her grow and mature as an artist, business owner and as a christian through this whole process. I know that God is blessing her for stepping out on faith and trusting Him. There have been plenty of times we have seen God come through right on time for us. Once we needed $150.00 by Friday and Thursday afternoon a client called and said he needed pics of his building that afternoon and to be in Dallas at 5 pm. Many times when things were slow Kim would pray and things would start happening. It is amazing how God has blessed us and Kim Hayes Photography!
Kimberly, I am so very proud of you! You are a wonderful christian, wife, friend and photographer!
